The Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District has chosen a new principal for Tilford Elementary School in Vinton. Kyle Reeve was a teacher in the Tipton Community School district for ten years before serving for the past two years as principal at Roundy Elementary in Columbus Junction. Reeve was among a field of 29 applicants for the Tilford Elementary position and among nine who participated in telephone interviews. Reeve was one of four finalists who met with staff, community members, and school administrators.
Outgoing school superintendent Mary Jo Hainstock shared that Reeves was chosen in part because of his focus on students and his interest in growing school-community relationships. "Through Mr. Reeve's interviews, it was apparent that he stays focused on students and their success while also working to constantly improve strong relationships with parents, teachers, and support staff. He consistently emphasized his interest in gathering thoughts and ideas from a wide variety of people before making decisions, and that fits well with the district's emphasis on building strong relationships between the school and community."
Vinton's new principal grew up in Tipton and graduated from the Tipton school district before receiving a degree in Elementary and Middle-Level Education from the University of Northern Iowa. Reeve continued his education while teaching, earning a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Drake University in 2017.
"There are so many positive opportunities I'm looking forward to in Vinton," says Reeve. "I look forward to continuing the improvements that resulted in Tilford's recent Blue Ribbon School award, and I'm excited to become part of an administrative team focused on the learning and well-being of students. My wife Jill and I are also looking forward to all the great experiences raising our six-year-old son Elijah, and one-year-old Lincoln in a community with such a wide range of recreational and educational opportunities."
