With the impending snowstorm predicted to unfold in the Vinton area over the next 48 hours, Vinton Police are seeking everyone's assistance in getting their vehicles and trailers off all public streets and parking lots, and to keep them off the streets until the snowfall has stopped and Street Department plows have been through your area.

"We're looking at what could be one of the biggest snowfall events of the winter hitting us within the next 48 hours, and we really need the public's help with this", Jeff Tilson, Vinton Police Chief said today.

City ordinances require all vehicles to be moved off the public right-of-way, or out of City parking lots, and to remain off those areas until the snowfall has stopped and the areas have been plowed by City crews.

Vinton Police have been towing vehicles for violations of the snow removal or street storage provisions of the City Code already this winter.

Any vehicle which has either of these tags pictured with this story can, and will, be towed without further notice as early as 24 hours after the tag is placed on the vehicle.

"And tearing the tag off but not moving the vehicle won't keep it from getting towed, we photograph those tags when they're placed on the vehicle to prevent a false claim like this. We don't want anyone to have any unnecessary tow bills, but we don't want to waste money plowing around vehicles that shouldn't be on the streets in the first place." Tilson added.

M January 31, 2011, 9:49 pm GOOD!!! I say kudos to Jeff and the guys, and to those who don\'t obey..TOW \'EM!! The city guys do a great job trying to clear the streets as quickly as possible and some people show them total disrespect by not getting their cars out of the way...I just wish there was a way to tow them quicker..to Jeff and his crew in blue keep up the good work and to Rick and the guys..we appreciate all you do in the worst of weather!!!
J February 1, 2011, 3:00 pm I agree. I\'ve always felt the streets are cleaned so well here in Vinton in the winter that I doubt we realize it.
Thanks guys for doing the dirty work.
D February 2, 2011, 2:06 am I don\'t have a problem with moving my vehicle every 24 hours. My question is where am I suppose to move my car too OFF the street when the street is the only place to park my car?
JT February 2, 2011, 12:44 pm Dawn\'s question is a very common one we get. While we can\'t offer any suggestions of where you can or should park in these situations, we can only make sure everyone knows where they cannot when it comes to the public streets and parking lots during large snow events. Most of these questions I get come from renters. In those instances, City zoning regulations require the landlord to provide off-street parking spaces for their tenants, and I usually refer those individuals to their landlord.
