News : VSHS students earn many Division 1 ratings at Large Group Speech event

Many VSHS speech students earned Division 1 ratings from judges at Large Group event Saturday.

Several Vinton-Shellsburg High School speech students received a ONE rating at the Iowa High School Speech Association’s District Large Group Speech Contest held at Montezuma High School on Saturday January 22nd. They advanced to the State Large Group Speech Contest held this past weekend at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids. These students participated in One Act Play, two Musical Theatre groups, three Improvisation groups, Group Mime and Solo Mime.

All-State selections

The six girls in the "Legally Blonde" musical theatre entry ( Emma Horst, Nikki Thompson, Tess Noeller, Maddy Springer, Emma Lippmann and Liz Moen) were chosen for the All-State festival. So was Alex Springer, who was chosen for his solo mime, "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."
