On Friday, November 6th the Vinton Shellsburg FFA Chapter had six members attend the Northeast District Greenhand Fireup, at the Edgewood Colesburg High School. Our six greenhand members in attendance include Ty Lillabridge, Landon Smith, Mathew Bookmeier, Rachel Rollinger, and Tori Elwick. The members were greeted with an opening session led by the Northeast District Officer team. The greenhands were then split into groups. Our members were with students from South Winneshiek and Jesup. Instead of rotating through different classrooms, the presenters rotated from room to room to meet with students to limit contact with others. The students went through different sessions that focused on communication and priorities. They also learned all about FFA and SAE projects. Vinton Shellsburg member Tori Elwick described the District Greenhand Fireup as a very fun experience and an enjoyable opportunity to learn more about FFA. Overall the District Greenhand Fireup provided many new leadership skills and experiences for the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members, promising a bright future for the program.
