Today's Special Olympics track event at Coe College in Cedar Rapids was cancelled because of the weather.

It was not the snow that caused the event to be called off. Although the snow and rain did make travel difficult; two vehicles ended up in the ditch along I-380 north of Cedar Rapids Saturday morning. While much of the ground and many vehicles were covered with snow early in the morning, it had melted by noon.

And it was not the wind that canceled the Special Olympics event.

Or the cold.

It was a flood. The precipitation caused water to cover the track at Coe, forcing organizers to cancel the event.

The Vinton-Shellsburg High School trap shooting team, the Red Cedar Shooters, did compete in their season opening event, the Xavier meet at the Otter Creek trap shooting facility in Cedar Rapids, although the wind made hitting the clay pigeons more of a challenge than usual. a scheduled meet in Cedar Rapids.
