The Salvation Army's Red Kettle bell ringing campaign kicked off on Monday, November 21st this year and run through December 24th. It will be at our usual location: Vinton's Fareway Grocery Store.

Please call Julie at 319-329-7119 to sign up for time to ring the bell, whether as a group or as an individual.

Ringing the bell, as well as donating, is an opportunity to help a person or family through a rough time, when finances are often in short supply.

It takes community involvement to operate the Red Kettle Campaign. Benton County has always been generous. It reminds us of what Jesus said in Matthew 25: 40, "When you have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, you have done it unto Me."

Last year we had 5 churches that took one or more days each to ring the bell, filling full 10 hour days with their people. That really helps to get the job done. We had 3 community organizations that also took a full day to ring. There were 2 youth groups, 11 businesses, and approximately 20 other individuals that volunteered.

The funds from the Red Kettle Campaign are disbursed throughout the year for assistance in paying rent, deposits, utility bills and other urgent needs.

Remember that 90% of the funds we raise will stay in Benton County for assistance to those in need. The remaining 10% will go to pay for training and supplies, etc. The citizens of Benton County are very generous. Last year we raised about $23,000. We assisted around 90 families or individuals last year.

For the current school year, Salvation Army was able to donate just under $2,000 to our 3 local school districts. Donations included some calculators, zipper binders, clothing and gym shoes for students in need.

We are hoping to have other ways to donate, like a QR code or a link for easier donation. When we have more information we will pass it on to you.

Ir you want to mail in your donation, send it to: Salvation Army, Benton County Service Extension, 1201 C. Ave, Vinton, IA 52349. (We are a 501c(3).

The Salvation Army service extension unit of Benton County is looking to add team members.!! Currently we have 11 members.

Come help us share hope with our community. We can't erase all problems, but we can help bring hope to people during difficult times. Ask us how! Call 319-329-7119.
