AmeriCorps NCCC team, Oak 4, has been working diligently with Habitat for Humanity Omaha since March 17 rebuilding homes and creating better lives for lower income families in Omaha.

The team has participated in a number of projects, including demolishing a house for renovation, installing siding and roofing to a nearly finished house, and raising walls on what will be the Hospitality House during Habitat’s Builder Blitz that takes place this coming June. The Hospitality House will be the home base for the construction workers and provide refreshments to everyone who will be working during the Blitz.

The Builder Blitz is a week long build-a-thon with the end outcome of 7 houses being raised and completed in 7 days. Within weeks after the building, the homeowners will sign their mortgage papers and officially have their homes!

NCCC has had the privilege of working along side another branch of AmeriCorps: AmeriCorps National.  The National service members supervise Oak 4 on the worksite. Oak 4 has gained a lot of knowledge of construction and tool safety from the National Service members.

Oak 4 returns to Vinton, IA, on May 13 and is enthusiastically waiting to find out where their next project will be!
