Two were injured in a crash that involved a vehicle belonging to Vinton-Shellsburg Schools on Thursday morning.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office reported that there were no children in the van when it happened, but both drivers were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Feather Ridge Road and Blairs Ferry Road.

The report said that a white 2019 Dodge Caravan, serving as a Vinton Shellsburg school bus, collided with a pickup truck blocking most of Blairs Ferry Road in the intersection. The van was being driven by 69-year-old Keith McGowan, who was able to get himself out of the vehicle.

The driver of the truck, 52-year-old Bart Johnson, was trapped in his vehicle and first responders had to extricate him from the vehicle. The pickup was heading southbound on Feather Ridge Road and turned left onto Blairs Ferry Road. The driver failed to stop at the stop sign and pulled into the path of the school bus van, which was heading westbound.

The crash is still under investigation.
