The Vinton Police Department with the help of the Vinton community were able to bring Christmas cheer to 85 local children. Vinton-Shellsburg and Benton Community Schools teachers chose the children who would participate in the program this year.
Vinton Police Chief Ted Paxton said the department was able to raise enough funds to provide for the families because of “the tremendous support of the Vinton businesses and community." Each child was able to spend approximately $110 at Theisen’s Home Farm & Auto Supplies. Theisen’s also chipped in a discount allowing a little extra for the shoppers.
Each child was able to buy anything they needed for themselves. They looked at coats, boots, hats and gloves. They could also buy a toy, game or anything else they found that was fun to round out their allotment.
The Vinton Police Department brought in area law enforcement from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and the Belle Plaine Police Department to assist the shoppers.

Well done, Vinton Police Department and all who made this event possible!
