A free concert by one of the most popular acapella singing groups in the Midwest followed by the largest fireworks display in the history of Party in the Park are the highlights of the Saturday, June 25 culmination of the 20th Party in the Park celebration in Vinton next month.
The Vinton Parks and Recreation Board heard an update on Party in the Park, and saw the T-shirts promoting the event this morning during their monthly meeting.
Tonic Sol-Fa, from St. Cloud, Minnesota, will bring their four-voice and one-tambourine show to Vinton, where they will be the featured act before the traditional fireworks show.
Randall said that before contacting the group (which has sold two million albums and will perform at the Iowa State Fair this August), he was concerned that they would be "out of our price range." But he learned that the group figures the distance from venues into its price, so being comparatively close to St. Cloud made the act something PIP could afford.
And this year, thanks to extra donations by several people, including Chuck Yedlik and Bar-Y Pyros, there will be the biggest fireworks display in the history of the event on Saturday, June 25.
Parks and Rec Director Duane Randall told the board that $6,500 worth of fireworks will be displayed during the show on Saturday. The PIP committee had budgeted $5,000 for the show, but someone else donated another $1,500. Yedlik and Bar-Y will also donate the items for a Friday night fireworks display.
The PIP Committee will be meeting soon to finalize the rest of the entertainment for the weekend. T-shirts will also be available in the very near future.
