Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District has been notified of a lawsuit filed by Melinda (Mindy) McClintock, an employee of the school.

In the lawsuit, McClintock is requesting a judgment be entered in her favor and is requesting that the Court order the following:

-She would like a declaration that the district's conduct is in violation of the law and make McClintock whole by providing her with appropriate lost earnings and benefits, with interest.

-Require the District to give McClintock the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach and L3 Softball Coach positions or to require the district to pay McClintock the salary and benefits paid to the holders of the positions.

-McClintock also requests damages sufficient to compensate her for the pain, humiliation, and other emotional distress she has endured as a proximate result of the district's conduct.

- She requests being awarded an amount sufficient to fully reimburse her for the reasonable attorney's fees, expenses, and costs that has incurred, and will continue to incur, pursuing the claims asserted.

-Award pre-judgment interest and costs against the district as allowed by law.

-Award further relief as the Court deems necessary and proper.

The Vinton-Shellsburg School District released the following statement regarding the lawsuit:

"The school district takes all allegations of discrimination seriously and is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment for all employees and students. Our intention is to vigorously defend the allegations. However, as this matter is now the subject of pending litigation, the school district will refrain from making any further comments."

Representing McClintock in the lawsuit are Laura Schultes & Thomas Foley, attorneys. The case was filed on April 26, 2024.
