Tracy Seeman reported in Tuesday's Supervisor meeting that the tower project by Racom is now about 95% complete.
Shellsburg, Atkins, Newhall and Mt. Auburn are waiting for the coaxial cord to be run from the tower to the stations for the base radios. The cord finally came in last week, so they are finishing up connecting these.
Seeman also reported that there is a lot of waste from the old towers, and it has been cleaned up and the sites appear much cleaner now.
The company will now conduct a "drive test."
Drive Test
The "drive test" consists of one of the company trucks driving down every road in the county. Seeman believes that it would be a white Bronco that will have a lot of antennas on the vehicle. The truck will be driving down EVERY road in the county, gravel roads, mud roads, and paved roads stopping every 1/4 to 1/2 mile to test the reception for emergency services.
If you see such a truck, don't call 911 to report a "suspicious vehicle," it's just part of the E911 radio project making sure your calls will go through and emergency services will have reception.
