Candidates for Homecoming King and Queen Announced

It's that time of the year! It's time for Vinton-Shellsburg's Homecoming week. This year the Vinton Vikings will face West Marshall of State Center for their Homecoming game.

On Monday, the process had begun. The students chose the top ten nominees for Homecoming King and Queen. The nominees are:

Homecoming Queen Candidates:

Isabel Birker, Sadie Burke, Addy Chvala, Dakota Cornell, Kiley Fiser, Alyssa Fuehrer, Olivia Hedrick, Elizabeth Stratton, JolieMae Watson and Ellise Weets.

Homecoming King Candidates:

Noah Armstrong, Lucas Birker, Brady Bruce, Thomas Carte, Hayden Davis, Keyton Grimm, Jacob Helter, Evan Lopata, Andrew Pingenot and Connor Zearle.

The candidates will be voted on again and the final five announced on Wednesday.

The 2024 VSHS Homecoming Activities Schedule include the following events:

Tuesday, September 17th:

Dress-Up Day Theme- Athlete vs. Mathlete

5:00 PM - Volleyball Games at Garrison Fieldhouse

Wednesday, September 18th:

Dress-Up Day Theme - "On Wednesdays we wear pink." "Real men wear pink." Pink Day

1:20 PM - Announcement of the Top 5 Candidates for Homecoming Court

Thursday, September 19th:

Dress-Up Day Themes - Eras

12th gr.-Roman Era (Togas)

11 th gr.-Vsco Era

10 th gr.-Y2K Era (early 2000s)

9 th gr.-Disco Era

6:00 PM - Homecoming Parade starts at 4th Street & B Ave. The parade route for Thursday night, staging and line up will be from the corner of B Ave going toward West 5th St. with the beginning of the parade starting at B Ave. and West 4th St. 

The parade will go east on 4th St. and turn on to 2nd Ave. and head back to the high school. 

6:45 PM - Pep Rally at Karr Athletic Complex

7:00 PM - Homecoming Coronation Ceremony at Karr Athletic Complex

7:30 PM - Jr./Sr. Powder Puff Football at Karr Athletic Complex

During the first half of the game there will be a Football Jersey Auction.  The proceeds will go to support the Union School Community following the loss of their classmate last week.

Bidding will be held at the Karr Complex and will close at the start of the second half when pay and pickup will begin. (Jerseys are not actually for sale, but MUST BE RETURNED.

Cash is preferred but checks made out to Vinton Shellsburg CSD will be accepted.

Friday, September 20th:

Dress-Up Day Theme - SPIRIT DAY (Black & Gold)

2:00 PM - All District School ONLY Pep Assembly at Karr Athletic Complex

5:00 PM - Fr.-So. football game against West Marshall at Karr Athletic Complex ($6.00 per student admission, or activity pass, to attend football games)

6:30 PM - Introduction of Homecoming Court to VS fans in grandstand

7:30 PM - Homecoming Varsity Football Game against West Marshall at Karr Athletic Complex

Half-time of varsity game- Marching Band performance of "Viva la Vida" show

Athletic Hall of Fame Induction

Saturday, September 21st:

9:00 AM - Sophomore Volleyball Tournament at Garrison Fieldhouse

8:00-10:30 PM -Homecoming Dance in VSHS Commons ($5.00 per person; non VS students must have Guest Form approved by Sept. 18th
