The Honor Flights of Eastern Iowa organization, which first began flying veterans to Washington, D.C. in 2009, is preparing for its 54th flight on April 29, 2025. This flight continues the group's mission of honoring veterans by providing them with an unforgettable experience to visit memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice.

In support of this mission, the Vinton Lions Club presented a check for $2,195 to Honor Flights of Eastern Iowa. The donation was made possible through funds raised at the Lions Club's Annual Chili Supper, held on November 21 at the Vinton Fireman's Station. The community event attracted a strong turnout, with attendees generously contributing to the cause.

Roger Uthoff, Honor Flight coordinator and Lions Club member, along with Connie Arens, a board member, secretary, and member of the medical staff for Honor Flights of Eastern Iowa, accepted the donation on behalf of the organization. Representing the Vinton Lions Club during the check presentation were Alan Woodhouse and Tanner Davis.

The Honor Flights of Eastern Iowa organization continues to rely on the support of communities like Vinton to fulfill its mission. Donations and events like the Annual Chili Supper ensure that veterans can participate in these meaningful trips at no cost to them. The upcoming flight in April will be another testament to the gratitude and respect that Iowa communities hold for their veterans.
