On Friday and Saturday, July 22nd and 23rd, the Mount Auburn Youth Council and Mt. Auburn residents are planning a city wide garage sale. The sales will begin at 9:00 a.m.and end at 5:00 p.m. In the City Park, the Youth Council will be sponsoring a Bake Sale, selling drinks and White Lights Soy Candles and giving directions to buyers. They are earning money for a field trip to Spook Cave and Pikes Peak State Park in August. The Mount Auburn Youth Council is made up of young people, ages 8 - 18, who work as volunteers on service projects. In the last 10 years, they have done everything from paint buildings and fire hydrants, to bus tables at church suppers. They also partnered with the city to update the City Park. The Youth Council's fundraising efforts raised over $25,000 to replace all of the park equipment and benches, with the city providing the labor to install it. The 2010-2011 Council officers are President Maggie Osmundson, Sky Love Vice-President, Mikia Stegner Treasurer and Secretary. If you have a service project that needs young volunteers, you can call Dawn Pettengill at 319-610-3412.
