The storm-damaged football field will be ready for action tomorrow night when Vinton-Shellsburg hosts South Tama.

The Vikings defeated Benton Community, 18-12 in a nail-biting overtime game last Friday. South Tama won at Saydel, 58-23. Like virtually all other teams, the Vikings begin their season with two non-district opponents before playing the seven other teams in their district.

The July 11 wind storm ripped the roof from the press box, bent some of the light poles in two and damaged the scoreboard. It also flattened the storage building containing the sound system and other equipment.

Other area teams
Union travels to Independence. Last week, the Knights came from behind to defeat Decorah, 20-17. The Mustangs lost to Waterloo Columbus, 36-19.

Benton Community plays at Marion, which defeated Mount Vernon, 14-10 last week.

Center Point-Urbana hosts Dyersville Beckman. CPU lost its season opener to Williamsburg, 34-7, while Beckman defeated Western Dubuque by the same score.
