Democrats from Benton, Tama, Iowa, and Poweshiek Counties packed the Belle Plaine Area Historical Museum, Sunday evening, February 26th for the opportunity to meet and hear Congressman Bruce Braley of Waterloo discuss his plan for the new 1st Congressional District. The event was hosted by the Benton County Democratic Central Committee.
Congressman Braley is no stranger to the area as he was born in Grinnell and spent his childhood in the Brooklyn area. Congressman Braley was first elected to represent Iowa’s 1st Congressional District in 2006. Because of the 2010 census that resulted in Iowa losing one of our congressional seats, the districts were redrawn and now the 1st District include the four counties listed above as well as sixteen others.
Congressman Braley is an outspoken advocate for veteran’s rights, finding ways to create jobs, strengthening the economy, the middle class, and educational opportunities. His mother who lives in Brooklyn is a seven decade teacher accompanied her son to the Belle Plaine event. She still subs for her school district.
