News : Gardner is first in VSHS to be chosen for All-State Jazz Band

Nick Gardner: First from VSHS to join All State Jazz Band.

On Tuesday, Vinton-Shellsburg Jazz Band member, Nick Gardner, was recognized in front of a capacity crowd at the Des Moines Civic Center while being accepted into the 2012 Iowa All-State Jazz Band.

Nick was recognized as the top tenor saxophone in class 3A in the state of Iowa for jazz band. He will rehearse at Drake University on Wednesday, May 9 and Thursday, May 10 and will perform at the 2012 Iowa Bandmasters Conference on Thursday, May 10 at 4 P.M. in the Cities Ballroom at the Downtown Marriott Hotel in Des Moines.

Nick was the first person in school history to be accepted into the Iowa All-State Jazz Band last year; he earned that honor again this year. The Class 3A All-State Jazz Band will be under the direction of Mr. Mike Steinel from the University of North Texas.
