"It was an honor to be selected as The Heart Ambassador family for The American Heart Association," says Kendra Spencer, the mother of Olivia Spencer.
Olivia was also featured in a commercial, you can see here...
Olivia was born with a congenital heart defect and has already survived several surgeries, life-threatening complications and a stroke. She is only 4 years old.
"Saturday (Aug. 4) was a very special day for our family," says Kendra. "Not only did we spread awareness for Congenital Heart Defects and the seriousness of heart disease, but we were able to raise $3,903 for The American Heart Association. This money stays right here in Iowa! If it wasn't for fundraising, which is where most of the money for heart research comes from, our daughter would not be alive today."
Olivia was also recognized for her strength and bravery.
"Many Iowans got to see just how special she truly is. Olivia is a miracle and the reason why we walk. She is the face of Heart Disease. It's not just your grandpa's disease. This beautiful little girl has fought so very hard for the 4 1/2 years she has earned here on this Earth and it is our duty to make sure we do everything we can to help her earn many more years. Look for our team again next year as we continue to fight the battle against heart disease and stroke," says her mother.
