Before Daniel Ervin and Erin Randall could be crowned Vinton-Shellsburg High School Homecoming Queen and King Thursday night, they needed to hitch a ride to the school.
Daniel and Erin were sitting on the top of the back seat of a 1960s Mustang, one of five convertibles carrying the 10 King and Queen candidates. The Mustang -- the first of the five cars along the parade route -- broke down, forcing Daniel and Erin to take a spot in the back of the convertible carrying candidates Will Hancock and Stephanie Berry. It was a coincidence that Daniel and Erin were riding in the same car -- the identity of the King and Queen were not revealed until the pep rally after the parade.
The pep rally also included a relay race and the Powder Puff football game between the Junior and Senior girls.
