Many VSHS students rode in the annual Homecoming Parade,, while the VSHS and VS Middle School bands marched and played -- with the younger band members playing the familiar theme of the Hogan's Heroes TV show.

Other area business and groups also participated.

School leaders elected to replace the traditional window painting with the time-saving project of painting banners, but a few business operators requested the window painting as in previous years.

BE September 21, 2012, 1:52 pm Painting the business windows is a great homecoming tradition in Vinton. Bring it back for next year.
MS September 21, 2012, 5:37 pm I agree. Eliminating window painting and replacing with banners would be a travesty to a time-honored tradition that contributes to the hometown atmosphere of Vinton. Not all things that are convenient, or \"time-saving\", are appreciated. Vinton has already foregone the mighty Viking spirit that rises out of the Cedar on Homecoming Eve, leaving footprints across town, to aid the Vikings to victory, please don\'t let the window painting follow suit.
TB September 24, 2012, 1:25 pm I agree bring it back. I had a couple seniors come down and do my windows at Peppy\'s. They did a great job. Why do we continue to take all the fun out of being a kid?
