The Shellsburg Area Community Group (SACG) applied for a “Branching Out” grant with Trees Forever and Alliant energy to purchase trees for the Shellsburg Memorial Park. (This is the new city park that is being developed between the grain elevator and Bear Creek.)

A very generous grant of $2,515 has been awarded and there are twenty six trees to be planted!! On Saturday October 20, volunteers will be meeting at the park at 9 a.m. to plant the trees. Members of the Shellsburg Area Community Group will be joined by Sons of Legion representatives and other community volunteers to participate in the planting. Youth from the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts have also agreed to come help.

Mark Pingenot of Trees Forever will be present to give guidance and information on the proper planting and care of trees. Refreshments will be provided by the Shellsburg Area Community Group.

If it’s real rainy we’ll postpone the planting until the following Saturday, but this decision will probably be made at the last minute and we won’t have a good way to get the word out. So come on down and check out the action and help the community “get more green”!!
