On Saturday November 10, 2012 FFA helped out with putting up holiday lights and roping at various businesses throughout Vinton. We help with this every year, as well as NHS and students doing it for Black and Gold hours. Each group was lead by a teacher or community member, with 4-6 kids each, and an assigned task of businesses to put the decorations up for. My specific group put up the decorations at Iowa Land Management, Peppys Ice Cream, The Palace Theater, and 4th Street Cleaners. Other groups did them all along the store name signs downtown, Virginia Gay Hospital, the nursing home, and many other places. Most groups spent 2-3 hours doing their assigned businesses, we then went to eat lunch. Usually on this day we would all be eating at Pizza Ranch, however, due to the water boil that was going on that weekend, we could not. Most restaurants were closed for those few says. We instead went to the First Christian Church, where there were students, chaperones, and parents serving frozen pizza, chips, carrots, celery, snack desserts, and drinks. Overall it was a beautiful day, a good turnout, and we accomplished a lot.
