News : 'No hostile intent:' Teen cited for firing BB gun in city limits

A male juvenile has been cited for discharging a BB gun within city limits, after an incident last week.

“We had an incident where a group of friends were horsing around after school and a BB gun was jokingly pointed at a car occupied by two people,” said Vinton Police Chief Jeff Tilson. “All present were completely aware it was a BB gun.As they pulled away, a juvenile pulled the trigger and in the process, blew out a side door window.”

There was no hostile intent involved, said Chief Tilson.

“It was simply a stupid teenager prank that went wrong,” he said.“This all happened about 3:30 in the afternoon. Before we were even made aware of it -- it was apparently so insignificant to those involved that we were never called about it until 5 hours later -- parents had met, agreed to get the window fixed, etc.”

The case is closed, said Tilson.
