The Vinton-Shellsburg FFA has decided to follow a national program and give back to the local community.
The chapter is mimicking the ADM and Monsanto, Invest an Acre program. The program is asking farmers to donate one acre of crop to be sold with proceeds to go to a local food bank.
FFA member, Timothy Houtchens, questioned our local coop, and the decision was made to sell the chapter's last acre with the intent of making it a donation to the local HACAP.
HACAP is responsible for helping provide food and even medical supplies to lower income families in Benton County. It is only because of all the help and support our chapter had received from the community, will be making $1000 donation to give back to our community. Members hope this will spread the word that farmers really do feed the world.
