Vinton Police: Get vehicles off Streets and City Parking lots with impending snowfall
With the forecast of up to 5-8 inches or more of snow possible in the next 24-36 hours, it's again that time of year when Vinton Police are reminding everyone about getting their vehicles and trailers off all public right-of-ways and public parking lots, and to keep them off until the snowfall has stopped and Street Department plows have been through your area.
City ordinances require all vehicles to be off the public right-of-ways and City parking lots, and to stay off those areas until the snowfall has stopped and the areas have been plowed by City crews.
"A lot of people just don't realize how much time, effort, and expense goes into clearing the streets after a snowfall. We want to make sure that the Street Department can get your street cleared as quickly and efficiently as possible." Jeff Tilson, Vinton Police Chief said today.
In addition to the snow removal requirements, Vinton Police also take the opportunity to remind residents that keeping a vehicle on any City street or parking lot for more than 24 hours is prohibited too. "The term for this in the City Code is "Street Storage", Tilson added. "They get very easy to spot 24 hours after the snowfall stops and the streets have been plowed, and we will ticket each of them. And, this isn't just a winter situation, it's all year around, it's just easier for us to spot with a fresh snowfall." he added.
Vinton Police have towed vehicles and trailers for violations of the snow removal or street storage provisions of the City Code in the past, and will continue to do so this year,
