A water test problem led to a city-wide boil order, which caused Mayor John Watson to call for a review of the procedures governing such incidents.

Vinton-Shellsburg School Board member Todd Wiley resigned; the board later appointed Mike Timmermans to replace him, although the seat will also be on a February school ballot.

The Teenproof event helped parents learn how to look for signs of substance abuse in their children.

An open house at the Benton County Nature Center allowed area residents to see the progress of the facility and its exhibits.

The Koopman/Kersten Christmas light display resumed in full after the storm of 2011 resulted in a much smaller version of the display that has attracted visitors for nearly 50 years.

The Vinton-Shellsburg High School entrepreneurship class and teacher Rick Vettraino spoke to the school board about their efforts to work with community business leaders to revive Vinton Popcorn.
