News : Cooling Dancers to Compete in Des Moines

Hundreds of dancers from Iowa and neighboring states will fill the stages of Hy-Vee Hall at the Iowa Events Center this Sunday for the regional “Midwest Starz” dance competition.

Over 100 of the Cooling Dancers of Vinton have been hard at work preparing for this event, including a rehearsal onstage at the VSHS Aud. this past weekend. The students, ages 6 through 17, will compete in Tap, Musical Theatre, and Novelty Dance.

“It’s a fabulous event for our students, and we value the excitement, motivation, and learning that this event provides. This is the largest group of dancers we have taken, and their love of dance shines onstage. Our talented and enthusiastic students are passionate about competing and performing, and we are looking forward to a very successful weekend!” notes Joan Cooling Noeller, director of Cooling Dance Center.

The judging is based on dance technique, stage presentation, costuming, and overall impression, and the event is free and open to the public. All routines receive placement trophies, and the top five entries in each age group will qualify for special “high point” awards. Highest scoring routines will advance to the Midwest Starz National competition, to be held the weekend of June 15-17 in the Wisconsin Dells, WI.
