The Vinton Lutheran Home Communities & CURE Recycling have teamed up to recycle cell phones, smart phones, PDA’s, MP3 players, inkjet cartridges and digital cameras! The program will raise funds for the Lutheran Home to convert one of the resident rooms into a Hospice room and to also benefit CURE Childhood Cancer.

Simply collect the items around your home or office and drop them off at the Lutheran Home, Assisted Living, LHAA-E Corporate Office, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Mary’s Church, Nick’s TV & Appliance, or at I-Wireless. The Lutheran Home then sells the collected items to Earthtone Solutions at a pre-set rate per individual article. Earthtone Solution refurbishes, recycles or re-sells the items and donates the proceeds to CURE Childhood Cancer.

CURE Childhood Cancer was founded in 1975, when barely three out of ten children with cancer survived. Today, thanks to clinical and laboratory research, an average of seven out of ten children with cancer survive. But cancer still kills more children than any other disease. With new diagnoses of childhood cancer reaching epidemic numbers, funding this critical research is now more important than ever.

Environmentally, this year over 400 million printer cartridges and 130 million cell phones will be thrown in the trash. They contain arsenic, antimony, beryllium, cadmium, copper, lead, nickel, and zinc. When dumped into landfills, these toxins work their way into the groundwater. When incinerated, they form highly toxic dioxins & furans. These toxins have been associated with cancer, and a range of reproductive, neurological and developmental disorders. With your involvement, this recycling effort will be an extremely rewarding experience, and support several worthy causes.

Please contact Jessica Rippel at The Lutheran Home Assisted Living at 472-2092 or e-mail jessica@LHAA-e.orgwith any questions or to become a drop-off point. Thank you for your support!
