Recent VSHS graduate Megan Ternus has been selected as the 2013 Party in the Park Junior Grand Marshal. She will begin the weekend’s festivities by leading the Kid’s Parade through downtown Vinton on Thursday evening at 6:30.

“Megan has been great role model for the younger kids,” VPRD Director Duane Randall said. “She has been a very active volunteer, and it’s our way to recognize her awesome service.”

Megan Ternus is the daughter of Marty & Connie Ternus. She has been involved in marching & jazz band, chamber, show & jazz choir, basketball, soccer and speech while a student at Vinton-Shellsburg. In all of her spare time she has been very active in her church youth group and 4-H, holding all offices in the 4-H leadership.

One of Megan’s highlight projects has been the sewing of uniform dresses for youth in Haiti. Megan and mom sewed a lot of dresses and organized others to help complete this project of making over 1,000 dresses for the youth. Then this past January, Megan and her mother delivered these dresses to Haiti.

Megan has been honored recently as the “9 Who Care”, KCRG, “Hometown Hero”, KGAN & FOX, “Someone you should Know”, KWWL for her efforts. The list goes on and on for her academic achievements and honors that she has received over the last four years and that is why Megan is our Jr. Grand Marshal.

Congratulations Megan, your 2013 Party in the Park Junior Grand Marshal! For more information on 2013 Party in the Park activities, visit www.vprdzone.com or call VPRD at 319-472-4164.
