The first ever Children’s Health and Safety Circus that will be held in conjunction with Garrison’s Fun Day this Saturday, July 13 will have eight bicycles and 20 bicycle helmets to give away. The event will be held from 2 PM to 4 PM at the Garrison City Park and is open to all children.
“This is all about preventing injuries to children and adult awareness of potential hazards to children,” said Amanda Henkle, President of the Garrison First Responders and one of the event organizers. “A community event like Fun Day is great way to promote safety. We appreciate all of the support we have received for this event,” Henkle added.
Bicycles have been donated by Mary Vogt, Wilson – HiteInsurance, Farmers Bank, Paul’s Feed, Atkins Bank, VintonChiropractic, Flickinger Trucking, State Farm Insurance and Fisher Towing. Bike helmets have been donated by the Iowa Association for Justice and the Vinton Family Medical Clinic.
In addition to the bikes and helmets, children who participate will all walk away with a bag of goodies donated by area merchants and organizations.
Garrison Fun Day is sponsored by the Garrison Emergency Services Foundation, The Hitchin’ Post and the GBC Park Committee. The Garrison Emergency Services Foundation Inc. is a non-profit organization serving the needs of the Garrison Fire Department, Garrison First Responders and Garrison Emergency Services Auxiliary also assist with the event. All proceeds of the foundation are used for improvements to the Garrison Emergency Services and ongoing costs of disaster recovery.
