Marlyce I. Clair, 80 of Vinton died Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Sunnycrest Nursing Care Center in Dysart.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, August 21, 2013, Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton. Interment will be in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM until service time at the funeral home on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
Marlyce was born June 13, 1933 in Mt. Auburn to Harold T. and Sarah Emma (Willson) Bushnell. She attended school in Mt. Auburn through 8th grade and graduated from La Porte City High School with the class of 1950. Marlyce graduated from St. Luke's Nursing School in 1953.
Marlyce was united in marriage to Ralph Clair on March 8, 1953 in Unionville, Missouri. Ralph preceded her in death in 1985.
They made their home in Mt. Auburn and Marlyce worked at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton. They moved to Shellsburg in 1963 and she began working for the hospitals in Cedar Rapids as an O.R. Nurse. Marlyce assisted in the design of the 1st Endoscopy Unit at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. She retired from Mercy in 1981 due to health reasons.
Marlyce is survived by her daughter, Marcia Hunt of Cedar Rapids, her three sons, Frank Clair of Shellsburg, Michael (Renee) Clair of Vinton and Edwin (Lisa) Clair of Shellsburg; her 15 grandchildren; her 13 great-grandchildren and her sisters, Thelma (Duane) Belknap of Mt. Auburn and Judy (Delmar) Mehlert of Belle Plaine.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marlyce was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Read; sisters, Helen Wilson and Arlene Pippert and brother Jay Bushnell.
