VINTON : Maxine Relf, age 99, died Friday, August 16, 2013 at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton, just one week short of her 100th birthday.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, August 23, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Vinton, with Rev. Connie Wacht officiating. Interment will be held at the GarrisonCemetery. Friends may call at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th Streetin Vinton from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., on Thursday. A memorial fund has been established.

Maxine was born August 23, 1913 in BentonCounty, the first of 15 siblings to Walter and Leta Faye (Cumberland) Hepker.

On March 2, 1937 she was united in marriage to Roy W. Relf in Cedar Rapids. Roypreceded her in death on February 24, 1979.

Maxine and Roy farmed in BentonCountyand she also worked as a supervisor at Vinton Produce for a number of years. She later worked in the laundry at VirginiaGayHospitalfor 17 years. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Vinton.

She is survived by her son Jim Relf of Fairbank; her daughter-in-law Donna Relf of Shellsburg; her son-in-law John Coonrad (Karen Meese) of Strawberry Point; 5 grandchildren, Cary Dean (Rose) Relf of Shellsburg, Chris Relf (Brian Brummer) of Shellsburg, Rick (Linda) Coonrad of Phoenix, AZ, Frank Coonrad (Laurie Maker) of Strawberry Point, Kim (Mike) Dahling of Strawberry Point; 9 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by her daughter Judy Coonrad on May 14, 2002; her son Gary Relf on January 19, 2003; eight brothers, Robert, Leonard, Vern, Herman, Ralph, Theron, Lloyd and Jim Hepker and six sisters, Dora Hepker, Dorothy Schmitz, Norma Cook, Geraldine Frey, Mary Helen Zieser and Delores Winn.
