VINTON: G. Allen McNamee, 95 of Vinton and formerly of Waterloo and Bella Vista, Arkansas died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Vinton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jessica Crane-Munoz officiating. Interment will at 2:00 PM on Saturday at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Vinton Presbyterian Church. Full military rites will be conducted at the church by the Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57 and the United States Navy Honor Guard. Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton is in charge of arrangements.

Allen was born November 20, 1918 near Dysart to Amor T. and Mary C. (Ruth) McNamee. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1936. Allen served his nation during World War II in the United States Navy.

Allen worked as an electrician and appliance repair man, owning and operating Al’s Appliance Repair Service and later worked as a building inspector for Cedar Falls Utilities.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Brown on May 8, 1940 in Tama, she preceded him in death in June of 1986. Allen was later united in marriage to Dorothy M. (Wilson) Nelson on August 27, 1987 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo, she preceded him in death on August 5, 2009.

Allen was a member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church and in his leisure he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading and loved to tell stories.

Allen is survived by his son, James (Marlene) McNamee of Waterloo; his daughter, Ruth Ann (Robert) Evans of North English; two grandchildren, Michael (Rhonda) Evans; Timothy Evans and fiancé Leah Buck; two great grandchildren, Tasha (Dave) Scott and David Evans; great great grandchildren, Micheal, Kaitlynn and Raven and Orion, LilliAnne, Cameel, Zoee and Julianna; his step children, Lisa Ginn of Des Moines, Rev. Dr. James Nelson of Seaside, California and Robert Nelson of Delanson, New York; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren and his sisters-in-law, Darlene Heaton, Dona Dales, Georgia Thompson and Susie Hansen.

In addition to his parents and wives, Allen was preceded in death by his son, Michael LeRoy McNamee; three brothers, Virgil, Duane and Eldon, one sister, Dorothy Olson and one step daughter, Patricia Lea Montomery.

CM January 25, 2014, 11:02 am Al was a very special friend to many. My fondest memory will be when he joined the bell choir at the Presbyterian Church in his senior years. An example of his warm, giving manner, and always a smile for all.
