Glenn L. Kaiser, 80, died peacefully at his home on Monday, July 19, 2010 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 22, 2010 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Garrison with Pastor Mark Leckband officiating. Interment will be held at the Garrison Cemetery. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton, from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday. A Memorial Fund has been established.

Glenn was born June 30, 1930 in Big Grove Township near Garrison the son of Louis and Viola (Likens) Kaiser. He was baptized on June 13, 1931 and graduated from Garrison High School in 1948.

On March 5, 1950 he was united in marriage to Selma Marie Staab at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton.

Glenn farmed in Big Grove Township his entire life until retiring in 1997, and received many conservation awards in Benton County and the State of Iowa. In 1994 he received the Benton Pork Producer Award. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Garrison. Glenn served on numerous church and community boards. In his leisure he enjoyed fishing in Canada, golfing, yard work, and reading about history and politics. He and Selma wintered in Arizona, and traveled on bus trips across America.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Selma of Vinton; his children, David (Jane) Kaiser of Dysart, Michelle (BJ) Wayson of Vinton, Timothy (Tammy) Kaiser of Holt Summit, Missouri, Tami (Carey) Roth of Lake Havasu, AZ, and Jon (Michelle) Kaiser of Garrison; eleven grandchildren, Katie Kaiser, Mary (fiancé, Rob Veatch) Kaiser, Carrie Kaiser, Mark (Tabby) Kaiser, Blake (Jennifer) Wayson, Michael (fiancée, Rachel Smith) Wayson, Shannon (Jason) Cottrel, Scott (Christina) Kaiser, Tara Kaiser, Elijah and Noah Kaiser; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Louis (Joanne) Kaiser of Van Horne, Veryl (Eleanor) Kaiser of Walker, Beryl (Gay) Kaiser of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Merle Deane Turner of Vinton; Barbara (Wayne) Merchant of Garrison, Kay (Ron) Seiler of Wiggins, CO; his brother-in-law and wife, Berdell and Joyce Staab of Van Horne; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Maxine Lockard; and his in-laws, Walt Turner and Keith and Norma Weekly.
