Paul H. Meeks

SHELLSBURG: Paul H. Meeks, 92, died Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.

Public Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, February 17, 2014 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton. Private Family Graveside Services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery near Shellsburg.. Military Rites will be conducted by Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57 of Vinton and Iowa Military Honors.

Paul was born August 13, 1921 at Fredericksburg to Emeril and Clara (Warner) Meeks.

He served his nation in the US Army in the Pacific Theater and received the Bronze Star.

On November 15, 1947 he was united in marriage to Ida Bell Lint. She preceded him in death.

Paul retired as a machinist from FMC in Cedar Rapids. He was a volunteer firefighter and First Responder in Shellsburg for over twenty years. He was devoted to many different ministries in Benton County.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol Trester of Vinton; his son, Carl (Yvonne) Meeks of LaGrange, KY; his grandchildren, Greg and Brian Trester, both of Vinton, granddaughter-in-law, Silke Trester and her son, Julian Trester of Gardner , NY, Ashley (Luke) Guida, and Britney and Callie Meeks, all of LaGrange, KY; and his sister, Margaret Kahler of Cedar Rapids.

In addition to his wife, Ida Bell, he was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Brad Trester; four sisters, and one brother.
