NEWHALL: Dennis Lee Koopman, 54, died February 21, 2014 in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton, with Pastor Mike Townsley officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m., on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Dennis’s family.
Dennis was born April 22, 1959 in Vinton to Charles and Mary (Beatty) Koopman and graduated from Benton Community High School in 1977. He was married to LuElla Womochil on September 14th, 1981.
Dennis was a farmer and did custom baling and grinding as owner of Dennis Koopman Hay & Forage Service. Dennis also raised many livestock and was involved in several community organizations. He was a member of the Newhall Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Cattleman’s Association and a former member of the Pork Producers and Newhall Jaycees. In the past, he had served as a 4H leader. In the FFA, he had served as an Advisor, he was given the title of honorary chapter farmer, and held the Iowa FFA degree. In his leisure he enjoyed fishing, camping, working with horses, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his parents, Charles and Mary Koopman; his daughters, Brooke (Cory) Strasser, Brandie (Nathan) Gross, and Rebecca (Brad) Norton; his sons, Dustin (Emily) Koopman and Eric Koopman; his grandchildren, Zachary and Elizabeth Strasser, Hannah and Aiden Gross, Rileigh, Gracie and Haleigh Norton, and Wyatt and Stella Koopman; his siblings, Dan (Debbie) Koopman, Brenda (Wayne) Ostling of Nashotah, WI, Dean (Heidi) Koopman and Duane (Michelle) Koopman; and a number of nieces and nephews.
