SHELLSBURG: George M. Coy, 84, of Shell Rock, formerly of Shellsburg, died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center following a short illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton with Pastor Matt Hantz officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society.
George was born April 27, 1929 in Shellsburg to Otis and Nellie (Engeldow) Coy. He served his Country in the United States Army in the motor pool.
On May 3, 1952 he was united in marriage to Georgena Primrose at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. George worked as a radio drill operator at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids for over 35 years. Following retirement, George and Georgena wintered in Mission, Texas, where they enjoyed music jams and trips to Mexico.
He is survived by his children; Marion (Iris) Coy of Wildwood, IL, Susan (Marvin) Clark of Shell Rock, Cindy (Donald) Groth of Marion; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Genevieve Thiher of Phoenix, AZ, Edith (Harley) Williams of La Porte City and his brother Otis Junior Coy of Murrieta, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Georgena in 2003; 2 brothers, Lloyd and Bill Coy and 5 sisters, Loueva Johnson, Sadie Sturtz, Blanche Ferguson, Erma Noeller and Alta Gee.
