ATKINS: Lolita Marie Schanbacher, age 86, died Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Vinton Lutheran Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be held at St. Stephens Cemetery, Atkins. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Monday at St. Stephens Lutheran Church. Memorials may be left for St. Stephens Lutheran Church or Central Lutheran School.

Lolita was born on October 12, 1927 in Atkins, the daughter of Carl and Emma (Happel) Gerhold Sr. On September 7, 1947 she married Gilmore Schanbacher at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Atkins. Lolita worked as a cook at Central Lutheran School in Atkins, Atkins Elementary School and Trinity Lutheran School in Cedar Rapids.

She was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, the ladies aid society and the choir. Lolita was an accomplished cook and baker.

She is survived by her husband Gilmore of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Jan (Rev. Jerry) Doellinger of Cedar Rapids, JoAnn (Tom) Schumacher of Cedar Rapids and Jean (Rick) Von Dielingen of Seymour, IN; four grandchildren, Eric (Stephanie) Schumacher, Amy (Mark) Jungmann, Michelle (Bill) Quinn and Rachel Von Dielingen; two step grandchildren, Tony Schumacher and Chad (Christine) Doellinger; three great grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren and Billy; five step great grandchildren, Joshua, Connor, Kristine, Alexis and Andrew; her brother Arlen (Barbara) Gerhold of Atkins and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Martha Burns and her brother, Carl Gerhold Jr.

Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
