Obituaries : Ruth Anne Freeburg

Ruth Anne Freeburg died at the age of 61 on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Services will take place at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at 12:30 PM, with refreshments served after the service. Burial with Military Rites will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family. Condolences may be left at the web site, www.overtonservice.com

Ruth Anne Freeburg was born on September 20, 1952, in Charles City, the daughter of Rev. Dr. Gordon Neil Freeburg Sr. and Dr. Rosanne Crichton Geldert Freeburg. She graduated from Davenport West High School in 1970. Ruth served her country in the United States Army from 1971 to 1972 and in the Army Reserves for many more years. She worked as a registered nurse in Vinton, Iowa City, Traer and Cedar Rapids. Ruth loved crafts, gardening, fishing, camping, running and other outdoor activities.

She was preceded in death by her father. Ruth is survived by her mother; a son, Jason (Jessica) Burroughs of Grundy Center; a daughter, Jaime Burroughs of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; two brothers, Dr. William John (Margaret) Freeburg and Gordon Neil (Laura) Peterson; two sisters, Merrilee Freeburg (Paul) Tomlinson and Minnetta Freeburg (Patrick) Costa; and four grandchildren, Kassidy, Austin, Brittany, and Ava Ann.
