The Rev. Mr. David Fye died June 10 in Vinton.
Born Aug. 7, 1925, to Elmer and Bess Fye, in Cresco, he graduated Cresco High School, served as a medic in the Army in World War II, then graduated from Iowa State University.
In 1947, he married Charlotte Taylor. He had a forestry-related career until 1963 when he attended the seminary at the
University of Dubuque. He graduated with his masters of divinity degree and was ordained as a United Church of Christ minister in 1967.
He served churches in Hopkinton, Riceville, Fredericksburg, Sumner and Nashua, Iowa. Wherever he served, he used his carpentry skills for building projects within that church. He retired in 1989.
Dave was active in his community, serving in Lions Club, Fredericksburg Library Board, Amvets, the Sunburst Children’s Home and organizations of the UCC. He loved golf, camping, canoeing, bowling, family gatherings, and a good glass of scotch.
Dave is survived by his wife, Char, daughters Mona (Pytr) Knoll of Cedar Rapids, Peg (David) O’Rourke of Marion, Robbie Fye Leach (Leon) of Cedar Falls, Tammy (Ron) Carolan of
Fredericksburg, Lissa (Loren) Lippmann of Vinton, and brother Bob (Mary Ina) Fye of Starkville MS.
Dave had eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two nieces, a nephew, 12 great nieces and nephews and one great great nephew.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, son John David, and grandson, Dominic O’Rourke.
Dave has been cremated at his request. An informal memorial service will be held at Peace UCC Church, Fredericksburg, Iowa, on Sunday, June 15th at 3PM with time to visit with
the family prior to the service from 1-3PM. Dave’s favorite sweets and coffee will be served following the service during a time of fellowship. Burial will be in the family plot, Eddy Cemetery, Kendalville. Memorials may be sent to Char at 1413 2nd Ave, Vinton, 52349 and will be forwarded to the Alzheimers Association in Dave’s name.
