BLAIRSTOWN:
Glenn E. King, 85, of Blairstown died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne with Rev. Rose Marie Calderon-Khan officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown with Graveside Military Rites conducted by the M.J. Kirby American Legion Post #170 and the United States Naval Funeral Honors. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Blairstown from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday. A Memorial Fund has been established.
Glenn was born September 20, 1928 in Iowa County to Earl and Catherine Marie (Smith) King and graduated from the Blairstown High School. He entered the US Navy on March 7, 1946. Following his Honorable Discharge on October 25, 1947 he attended Business College in Cedar Rapids.
On September 19, 1955 he was united in marriage to Darlene Schulze at Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne. The couple enjoyed wintering in Arizona for the past 21 years.
Glenn was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne, the M.J. Kirby American Legion Post #170 in Blairstown and the LST (Landing Ship Tank) Association. He enjoyed collecting caps and traveling the Midwest for his children and grandchildren’s activities.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Blairstown; his children, Julie (Curt) Bousum of Marshalltown, Kent (Kelly) King of Dysart, Tammi (Gary) McNeal of Clarinda, Wade (Angela) King of Davenport and Boyd King of Blairstown; his grandchildren, Grant (Kayla) Bousum, Gelene (Shane) Smutz, Brooke (Dustin) Jetmund, Kersten and Katie King, Brittany (Brock) Raum, Allison and Ryan McNeal, Kennedy, Mallory and Carly King; eight great-grandchildren; his sisters, Rachel Reilly of Anamosa and Evelyn Schulze of Blairstown.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roy King.
