ATKINS: Sue Burkart Cain, 87, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Atkins with Pastor Mike Andrew officiating. Interment will be held at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will also be held at the church from 4 to 8 p.m., on Friday. A memorial fund has been established.

Frances Sara Schueler, known to family and friends as "Sue", was born September 7, 1926 at Atkins to Nicholas and Sara (Grimm) Schueler.

On October 5, 1945 she married Franklin Burkart at Marion. He preceded her in death in 1962. She was united in marriage to Clayton Cain on July 5, 1968 and he preceded her in death in 2008.

Sue was a life member of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Atkins where she enjoyed membership in the Ladies Guild, and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Atkins Legion Auxiliary, and organized Sue's Jolly Coffee Group. Sue had served as a Cub Scout Den mother and was a great contributor to the Atkins Community through her volunteer efforts.

Sue is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard (Connie) Burkart of Iowa City, Joe (Ann) Burkart of Crestview, FL, Richard (Sandy) Burkart of Swisher, and Michael (Regina) Burkart of Newhall; her step-children, Clinton (Mary) Cain of Eldorado Springs, MO, Lois McDaniel, Wendy Cain-Hessenius, Carol (Thom) George, Marcy (Dave) Pennington, and Mark Cain, all of Cedar Rapids; her sister, Helen Jacobus of Cedar Rapids; her brother, Russell Schueller of Cedar Rapids; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her son, Franklin "Junior" Burkart; her step-son, Clayton "Skip" Cain II; her granddaughter, Meegan Burkart; three brothers and five sisters.
