ATKINS:

Lee Emanuel Nelson, 80, formerly of Atkins, IA died Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Woodridge Supportive Living in Geneseo, IL following an extended illness.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, November 17, 2014 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St., in Vinton with Rev. Jessica Crane-Munoz officiating. Friends may register prior to the Memorial Service at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Raetz Cemetery, near Atkins. Following internment, a Celebration of Life will be held at Atkins Park Pavilion. All wishing to join are welcome.

Lee was born November 22, 1933 in Atkins to Stanley and Echo (Kolsto) Nelson. Lee graduated from Atkins High School in 1951. During the Korean War he served his nation in the US Army based in San Antonio. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a Barron Motor’s machinist.

Lee’s interests were his family, Atkins Family, friends, sailplanes, and dirt track/stock car racing. His dedication and commitment as a provider was unparalleled.

Lee is survived by his daughters, Michelle Nelson and Diane (Chris) Biellier; grandchildren, Alexandria and Edward Shimkat, Caleb Biellier, Quentin Topping, Carter Biellier, and soon-to-be arriving great-grandchild; sister, Lois Longfield; and canine companion Sadie.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David and Gordon; and nephew Jimmy.

A memorial fund has been established for Atkins First Responders.
