CEDAR RAPIDS – Dennis F. Burns, 61, died Saturday, November 22, 2014, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha due to cancer.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, at the U.S. Bank Community Building, 414 A Avenue, Vinton, Iowa. Please bring a dish to share, along with your own drink and table service. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Please bring a memory of Dennis to share.

Dennis was born April 7, 1953, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of Maurice and Bernetta Johnson Burns. He worked as a carpenter but also did electrical wiring, plumbing and drywall.

Dennis enjoyed riding his motorcycle and playing video games. He loved helping and supporting others, but his greatest joy in life came from spoiling his grandchildren.

Dennis is survived by one daughter, Shannon (Shane Stern) Burns, of Marengo; one son, Scott (Jayme) Usher, of Clinton; one brother, Garry (Janice) Burns, of Waterloo; one sister, Kathy Burns, of La Porte City; six grandchildren: Angel (Donald Gubbels) Lovell, Austin Burns, Caitlin Lovell, Joseph (Grace) Usher, Felisha (Lucas) Usher and Kayla Usher; and 3 great-grandchildren: Dennis Gubbels, Liam Usher and Jaxsen Mathes.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
