Lanny J. Stephens

BRANDON - Lanny Judd Stephens, 58, died Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Pastor David Condry officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery.
Lanny was born February 25, 1956, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Darrell and Judy Stainbrook Stephens. He attended school in Vinton.
On March 9, 1974, Lanny was united in marriage with Peg Lindsey in Vinton.
Lanny worked at John Deere, retiring in 2003. He mowed for the Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District for 10 years, and most recently had been working for Meyers Wholesale Turf in Mt. Auburn.
He was a member of UAW Local 838, the Brandon Jaycees and the Brandon Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren at his cabin in Harpers Ferry.
Lanny is survived by his wife, Peg, of Brandon; his mother, Judy Stephens of Brandon; three daughters: Lanja Dulin of Brandon; Sheryl (Shawn Burlingame) Rackle of Cedar Rapids; and Lisa (Greg) Selken of Brandon; one brother, Rex (Cheryl) Stephens of Brandon; and 9 grandchildren: Kyle, Deion, Ashley, Alan, Hailey, Nolan, Ava, Nate and Shelby and sister-in-law, Penny Lindsey.
He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Kathy Waskow; and one grandson, Lane Rackle.
A memorial fund has been established.
