Vinton—Jerry Miller, 70, died Monday, December 8, 2014 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton of cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Vinton with Rev. Ardel Barta as celebrant. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 11, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home, Vinton, and for an hour before Mass on Friday at the church. Inurnment in Bear Creek Cemetery at a later date.
Gerald Francis Miller was born May 30, 1944 in Alton, IA, the son of Julius and Johanna Aalbers Miller. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Alton. On October 21, 1966 he married Carol Straw in Independence. Jerry was a welder and worked at Hawk Bilt, Winthrop Welding and retired from IBP in 2009.
Jerry was a member of St. Mary Church in Vinton. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding four-wheelers and camping with his family. He was also an avid reader and woodworker.
He is survived by his wife of forty eight years, Carol, Vinton; daughter, Jennifer (Pat) Neuhaus and grandchildren, Tyler, Alyssa and Michelle, Cedar Rapids; sister, Patricia (Paul) Gaul, Corvallis, MT, Debra (Don) Hutchins, Hamilton, MT and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, John Reeff; a stillborn son, Gerald Jr. and daughter, Michelle.
