VINTON - Lorna L. Schwartz, 88, died Sunday, December 14, 2014 in the Ed & Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with Pastor Stephen Preus and Pastor Mark Leckband officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.

Lorna was born July 30, 1926, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Rudolph D. and Ellen Anna Bramow Henkel. She was a 1944 graduate of Lincoln High School in Vinton. On January 26, 1947, Lorna was united in marriage with Marion Russell Schwartz at the Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage in Vinton. The couple had been married for 67 years when Marion preceded her in death on May 24, 2014.

Lorna was a farm wife for 25 years. She also worked as a clerk at LaGrange Pharmacy in Vinton for 37 years. She was known as the “card lady,” retiring in November of 2009 after 37 years. Lorna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.

Lorna is survived by four sons: Roger (Barbara) Schwartz of Winston-Salem, NC; Kevin L. (Shirley) and Craig A. Schwartz, both of Vinton; and Steven L. (Nita) Schwartz of Stillwater, MN; four grandsons: Josh, Blaine, Nathan and Mitchell Schwartz; and four great-grandchildren: Cael, Caden, Keaton and Jordyn Schwartz; brother, David (Judy) Henkel, Vinton, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister in infancy; brothers, Wilbert and Myron and grandsons, Kenton and Daniel Schwartz.

In lieu of flowers, Lorna preferred memorials be directed to TLC (Trinity Lutheran Church) Preschool and Camp Courageous.
