Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia M. Evans, 83, of Davenport, formerly of Big Rock, Iowa, will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park. The family will greet friends 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. Mrs. Evans died on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at her residence at the Senior Star retirement community in Davenport.

Virginia Mavis McVey was born on Dec. 9, 1931, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Clair and Fern (Caldwell) McVey. Following her graduation from Marion High School, she married her high school sweetheart, John H. Evans, on June 9, 1950. He preceded her in death in July of 2010. Mrs. Evans was a housewife, homemaker and most of all, Mom. She loved spending time with her family, and most especially, her visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport, and a former member of St. James Catholic Church in Toronto, Iowa. In earlier years, she enjoyed bowling and was a member of several women’s leagues.

Surviving members of the family include a daughter, Karen (Roger) Spratt, Davenport; two sons, John “J.C.” Evans Sr., and his special friend, Barb, and James (Sandra) Evans, all of Davenport; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and godchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Leota Williams; and a brother, Jack McVey.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity.
