Irene L. Geater

VINTON -- Irene Leona Geater, 91, of Vinton, died Sunday, December 21, 2014, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at Prairie Creek Christian Church in rural Vinton with Pastor David Arnold officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, December 22, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Vinton.
Irene was born July 21, 1923, in Morton, Minnesota, the daughter of Benjamin and Esther Holly Price. The family moved to Oelwein, Iowa, where Irene attended Harrison Country School until the 8th grade.
On September 16, 1944, Irene was united in marriage with John Lloyd Geater in Vinton. Irene worked as a homemaker on the couple’s farm in Benton County.
She was a member of Prairie Creek Christian Church in rural Vinton.
Irene is survived by her husband of 70 years, John, of Vinton; one son, Benny (Carol) Geater of Vinton; 4 grandchildren: Kristian and Bradley (Jaye) Geater and JoLynne and Teri Richardson; 6 great-grandchildren: Crew, Ramsay, Jackson and Vivien Geater, Colin Menegay and Draeden Spang; and two sisters: Lillian Crisman of Vinton, and Ila Mae Burris of Burbank, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Glen, Virgil and Richard Price; and one sister: Hazel Schminke.
A memorial fund has been established.
